Electric Remote Control Cars
The seeds of this hobby were sown in the 1950’s after the war. During the 1960’s retail outlets began to sell electric remote control cars. Since then the law of supply and demand saw the growth of what has become a hobby bringing pleasure to families and organized events to enthusiasts worldwide.
Electric remote control cars like their full size counterparts come in a variety of shapes and sizes limited only by the creativity of the designers. Cars range from about matchbox size to approximately 60 centimetre’s in length. The industry devoted to this niche market has enabled the development of wireless remote control along with an on-going improvement in the quality and robustness of the products delivered to the enthusiasts.
In real terms the cost of remote control electric cars has reduced over the period of this phenomenon and so is available to a larger consumer group. Add to this the improved technology that now goes into these machines there is added value to the user.
Key factors to consider when undertaking this hobby :-
1. Quality and Price.
A suggested price range to consider in an effort not to compromise quality is between $100 and $500.Quality matters as what will be remembered at the end of the day is the experience. Whether the purchase is for a child or an adult it is the experience that will determine the success or otherwise of the hobby.
2. Performance
The choices to be made with regard to the various parts that in the end make up the car will determine the performance. An example of this is the battery. The choice is between an alkaline or lithium-ion battery. If quality is the goal then lithium-ion is the choice .Two reasons are:-
A] A much longer battery life i.e. usually double
.
B] Charges quickly
.
On this one part alone it can be seen how the experience with one will be different to the experience with the other.
Another example of how parts impact on performance would be to consider the motor. The choice is either brushed or brushless. The difference in experience between the two would be manifested in the speed and response. A brushless motor delivers better on both counts and is suitable for racing.
Parts Parts on model cars are like their real counterparts i.e. differential’s, shock absorbers, tyres, etc and like the real larger versions they can crash and be damaged so once again part of the quality xperience is being able to replace parts when and where required.
3. Models
There are as many different models as there are preferences that people have. The list below is a small sample of models.
